Practice Director, Ralph Wheeler has 25 years experience designing a broad range of projects from masterplanning and feasibility studies through to full project delivery.
Since RWA was founded in 2015, we have a proven our World Class understanding of sports architecture spanning the full breadth of sport participation. This includes delivering facilities for major international events that highlight elite performance through to facilities focused on grass roots development in sport and community participation.
RWA is a full service architectural practice. Our scope includes initial concept design, reference schemes, masterplanning, detailed building design, landscapes, interiors, project management and delivery.

RWA and Dalton Consulting Engineers have been appointed to lead the design of the Deagon Racecourse Redevelopment.
December 2023 Update:
RWA alongside PSA Consulting Project Managers has been appointed as Games Overlay Consultants for the Bris2032 Olympic Games by the Olympic and Paralympic Infrastructure Office.
April 2023 Update:
RWA Director Ralph Wheeler completed a European Study Tour with Brisbane Racing Club and Racing Queensland representatives to understand emerging trends in sports entertainment. This included detailed tours of Royal Ascot Racecourse, Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium, Wembley Stadium, The Curragh Racecourse, Cheltenham Racecourse, Vincennes Racecourse and Longchamp Racecourse.
March 2023 Update:
RWA and partnering architects ARM have been appointed to lead the design of the 2026 Commonwealth Games Gymnastics and Weightlifting Competition Venue in Victoria.
February 2023 Update:
RWA and partnering architects Hassell have started design work the new Eagle Farm Grandstand ($150M) after successfully winning the design competition in 2021. Practical completion is expected June 2026.
December 2022 Update:
Ascot Racecourse in Perth have engaged RWA to continue a previous RWA commission to further develop an innovative design for 400 oncourse stables and equine pool complex.
October 2022 Update:
RWA have been appointed to assist Gymnastics Queensland with their Project Proposal for Bris2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
August 2022 Update:
RWA has teamed up with Woods Bagot to successfully win the Caulfield Racecourse Grandstand ($150M). Early design work has commence with practical completion anticipated ahead of the Caulfield Cup Carnival in 2026.

KIA Arena has been shortlisted in two categories at the AIA Victorian Architecture Awards - Public Buildings and the Melbourne Prize. It has also been shortlisted in the World Architecture Festival Awards 2022 with winners to be announced later this year.

The completed Show Court Arena named KIA Arena ahead of its inauguration at the 2022 Australian Open.

RWA and collaborating architects Marchese Partners unveil concept for a new multipurpose entertainment and exhibition centre for Maroochydore CBD alongside Ted O'Brien MP Member for Fairfax and Special Envoy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

RWA appointed to Peer Review the design of the new Redlands Sports Precinct, a 15ha recreation precinct for community rugby league, touch football, cycling and BMX and well as open space, trails and boardwalks through conservation areas.

Construction on Melbourne Park's new Show Court Arena is complete. RWA's design of the seating bowl will become the new benchmark for spectator sightlines and DDA compliance for this world leading sports precinct.
