Doha, Qatar
Principal Consultant: Hassell + RWA
RWA worked alongside Hassell Studio Architects to prepare architectural drawings and diagrams to assist Qatar with their bid to host the 2030 Asian Games. Similar to the Olympics, the Asian Games is a major multi-sport event held every 4 years with participants from over 40 nations. As part of Doha's bid book, the architectural team provided event overlay concepts for over 50 sports across 14 sports precincts in and around the city of Doha. For each sport, critical functional adjacencies and spatial requirements were identified for a range of different user groups at each venue. This included spectator facilities, athletes, games delegates/VIPs, broadcast, venue operations as well as transport routes and event carparking. In February 2021, the Asian Games Federation (AGF) confirmed Qatar had won the right to host the Games in 2030.
Gold Coast, Queensland
Client: GOLDOC
Sports Specialist Consultancy: RWA Sports Architecture
The 2018 Commonwealth Games was heralded as widely successful and memorable. It cemented Gold Coast’s status as a top international tourist destination and helped build a strong case for South East Queensland’s bid for 2032 Olympics Games. In late 2017, RWA was invited to join GOLDOC’s overlay design team to deliver temporary event facilities planning for numerous venues including; Coomera Indoor Sports Centre (gymnastics & netball), The Oxenford Studios (boxing, table tennis, squash), Sleeman Sports Complex (cycling), and Belmont Shooting Centre (shooting). Working under the cluster’s design team, RWA’s members actively helped to review and finalise documentation of BOH operational facilities, temporary seating layout, media tribune sightlines, secured entries, GA zone planning, and assessment of legacy capital works.
